Life of the Party

Down for the Count were absolutely amazing and made our wedding day. They got everyone up on the dance floor, even my 93 year old Gran and Grandad! And no-one stopped dancing until the end. The music was perfect, the band sounded great, looked great and really made a fantastic atmosphere that fitted in perfectly with our big day. Our guests are all still raving about them.

Absolutely tremendous!

Mike did a wonderful job co-ordinating musical arrangements for our wedding this summer. From beginning to end he made the process simple and fun and delivered exactly what we envisaged - a relaxed 5-piece jazz band accompanying our outside afternoon reception. Lots of our guests commented on how much they loved the band (in particular the 1950’s vibe of their outfits). Would highly recommend!

Amazing band!

Incredible and unique performance from Down for the Count. Every guest at our wedding commented how’s wonderful and fun they were corn the evening. We felt they were something different to a traditional band at a wedding and it paid off. They were truly wonderful and I wouldn’t highly recommends for any wedding!

Such a feel good afternoon

It wasn’t a wedding but my partner (who doesn’t even like jazz) and I saw this band at a Sunday lunch at Ronnie Scott’s in October 2018. Such a relaxed, fun, feelgood afternoon. Cheerful, funny, great music well played and sung with style and humour. I said at the time: “What a great wedding band this would be!”

Best wedding band ever!

Down for the Count is hands-down the best wedding band I've ever seen. My fiancée (now wife) and I saw them first at an event in London and were blown away. When I first contacted the band manager, Mike, he was wonderfully helpful and this continued throughout the planning of our wedding. Friendly and easy to work with, Mike helped us plan our set list and timings, while also remaining flexible to cope with last-minute changes on the day. Rarely have I seen a wedding band with such obvious musically and the number of guests who raved about the band was astounding. Other friends of ours have even booked the band at their own wedding, which goes to show how amazing they are.

Our dream wedding band!

"Dear Mike and the Down for the Count band members, Thank you so much for performing at our wedding. You were absolutely incredible - amazing musicianship, perfect repertoire and a very slick and professional set up. We were so overjoyed to have found you all and honestly couldn't have asked for more from our wedding band. We had fantastic feedback from all of our guests and everyone had such a good time dancing in the evening. Thank you so much for being so accommodating with our first dance, and for letting me join you for a number too. We're so grateful! Love, Olivia & Will"

Best Wedding Band Ever!!

We saw these guys perform at a friends wedding and they smashed it so we had to have them for our wedding. They were the highlight of the entire day, all guests absolutely loved them and they turned it into an incredible party!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Anthony and Becky's wedding at Pinewood Studios - we were there on the same day that Johnny Depp was filming on the 007 Stage, although sadly we didn't bump in to him!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Energetic, stylish, versatile, professional, reliable

What about your business are you most proud of?

Down for the Count started as a group of school friends in 2005. This gives us a unique bond which comes across in each and every performance.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

We've written a whole series of articles to help couples plan their wedding - check out our website! Our number one tip - leave a bit of time (at least 30 minutes) between the end of the meal/speeches, and your first dance. At this time your guests have been seated for several hours so will likely want to stretch their legs, go to the bar, or catch up with other friends - and your fantastic, energetic party band may be playing to an empty room! We know that often your photographer is booked until the end of the first dance, so think ahead and book them for that extra hour (then you get lots of great party snaps too).

Describe your typical process with a couple.

We work with wedding couples to provide bespoke entertainment packages for wedding receptions, providing all the live music you might need for your wedding day - from ceremony musicians, background jazz bands, energetic function bands and auto DJ services. The process starts with an email or phone call where you let us know what you're looking for. We will then put forward an initial proposal for you to consider. We usually then schedule a meeting or call (potentially at your wedding venue) to finalise your perfect wedding music package. We ask for a retainer fee of 30% to secure the booking, with the balance due 10 working days before the event - but you can always make additions to your wedding music package up until the big day, subject to musicians' availability. We're then always at the end of the phone until the wedding day, making sure all the plans are in place for your special day. On the day itself, we come and find you to say hello when we arrive, then we stay out of your way - hopefully the only time you'll notice us is when we're playing the music!

What makes a romantic first dance?

A song that is personal and means something to you. We can learn virtually any song for your first dance, as long as it suits the instrumentation of the band. However, don't feel pressured to have a first dance - many couples choose not to, and it's no problem at all if you'd rather not have one. If you have a special song, you should also think carefully about whether or not you want the band to play it. It will never sound quite the same as your favourite recording and we honestly won't be offended if you choose to dance to an original recording instead of having us play it for you.

What is your number one floor-filler?

Dancing in the Street - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

Earth Wind & Fire

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
